Another One! Dem Flees Party, Joins Republicans

(TeaParty.org Exclusive) – Is there some kind of Great Awakening happening among Democrats? This is a statement that honestly would have sounded ridiculous a few years back, but given the sheer number of individuals who have fled the party to join the Republicans, it seems this could be a legitimate phenomena. In fact, the Democrats suffered another loss this week as the third member of their party left in just a month’s time. This is truly unprecedented.

As per a report by Mary Lou Masters of the Daily Caller, State Rep. Jeremy LaCombe is leaving the Democratic Party and joining Republicans, making him the second Louisiana House Democrat to flip this month, following in the footsteps of Rep. Francis Thompson, whose switching over handed the GOP a supermajority.

The announcement was made during the first day of the Louisiana legislature’s session on April 10, which was only a few days after North Carolina state Rep. Tricia Cotham also left the Democratic Party, giving the GOP in the state a supermajority as well.

“House Democrats will continue to stand up for the working people of Louisiana,” Rep. Sam Jenkins, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, went on to say during an interview with The Advocate. “We look forward to working with Rep. LaCombe during this legislative session to increase wages, lower costs, improve our schools and pass insurance reform that benefit Louisiana families and small businesses.”

“In 2019, LaCombe handily won his seat in a special election with 68% of the vote, and was later elected to a full term with 62%, according to The Advocate. LaCombe ran for state Senate in 2022, but lost to Republican Caleb Kleinpeter by nearly 9 points,” Masters wrote. “The new Republican, who represents District 18, is a small business owner, director of the nonprofit Janell Legier LaCombe Cancer Fund and has served on the Chamber of Commerce board, according to his campaign website.”

Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards, will be leaving his current seat due to term limits, which means the position goes up for grabs this November, giving the GOP an opportunity to gain yet another seat and turn the whole state red.
