Surge Summary: A society needs solid fathers if it is going to be healthy and move into a secure future. Popular culture constantly undercuts that message. One pro-family group is taking active steps to push the importance of fatherhood.

“From before the moment of birth, through the rest of the child’s life, fathers are essential to the well-being of their children,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. “Unfortunately today, fathers are mocked and treated as unimportant.”

To combat this mentality, and in honor of Father’s Day, the Ruth Institute launched the Fatherhood Resource Center, which provides:

  • Research, such as “A Father’s Role in Raising Resilient Children” by Dr. John Mayer, a clinical psychologist, author and consultant. “While both parents have an important role to play in helping children grow and thrive, a father’s relationship with his children is especially important in fostering their sense of resilience.”
  • A video tribute by Rev. Walter Hoye to his father, which highlights the good fathers do for their families. Rev. Hoye will be our keynote speaker at the 2021 Summit Awards dinner.
  • Media, like “Are Fathers Worth Celebrating? Research about Dads,” a conversation with Dr. Tim Rarick, professor of Marriage, Family and Child Development at BYU, Idaho. “Feminists put men and women in opposition to each other… Modern feminism is producing beta males who don’t know how to take the initiative, how to take responsibility, protect, and be a gentleman, how to lovingly lead, how to channel healthy masculinity.”
  • Personal Recollections, such as “Do your best. Others are depending on you,” and other lessons Steve M. learned from his WWII bomber pilot father. “Dad taught me that all squadron personnel were told repeatedly, ‘Do your best. Others are depending on you,’ and that I should do my best for the same reason. I once asked Dad if he was ever afraid in World War II. He immediately answered, “Never! When there was a problem, I got serious and focused on how to solve it.” Dad’s advice helped me when at age 43, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.”
  • Resources, like “Building a Better Fatherhood: Self-giving love is the best foundation for family life” by Scott Yenor, professor of Political Science at Boise State University. “Cultural support for fatherhood has collapsed in the past 50 years, and there are few signs of renewal… The mission of fathers is two-fold: To love their wives and commit to providing for the total welfare of their children. Each of these requires from men a conscious attitude of self-giving love.”

“The elite idolize single mothers,” Morse noted. “But what about the father who marries the mother of his children? What about the father who puts responsibility ahead of self-gratification? What about the father who sticks through thick and thin, through good times and bad, who understands the importance of men who are dads to the future?

“Our Fatherhood Resource Center celebrates their sacrifices and explains why they are so essential for raising the next generation to be responsible, caring adults.”

The Ruth Institute’s Summit, “Reclaiming the Professions from the Sexual Revolution,” July 16-17 in Lake Charles, LA, will include presentations on the medical and psychological aspects of transgenderism, and how the professions are being corrupted by a pernicious ideology masquerading as a civil rights movement.

The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization, leading an international interfaith coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love.
