Amid The Russian Firestorm In Ukraine, The Story You Are Not Seeing Is The Re-Emergence Of Germany As A Military Powerhouse And That’s Very Not Good

“We are entering a new era,” Scholz told Parliament. “And that means that the world we now live in is not the one we knew before.” From Washington, it can be hard to appreciate just how big the shifts are that we are witnessing in Germany

On my mother’s side, I am 100% Irish, and on my dad’s side I am German Dutch with that side of the family, arriving here in what would be America, in 1722. So my German heritage makes up a fairly sizable portion of my earthly DNA. But my spiritual DNA, found in Ephesians 5:30, is not of this world and comes with an ample amount of prophetic discernment.  So when I understand that Germany was behind WWI, and started WWII, it is not a huge leap to seeing that they will be smack dab in the middle of WWIII as well. Until last week, Germany had been taking a 77 year nap, but now they’ve woken up and you’re not going to like what comes next.

“He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.” Matthew 16:2-4 (KJB)

Contained in the historical accounts of Germany’s military ambitions in the 20th century, we see a spirit at work in that nation, driving them to exert control over Europe. This reached a fever pitch under Adolf Hitler in WWII, and then, like magic, it all went away, seemingly for ever more. Certainly no one could imagine a Germany under, say, Angela Merkel, ravenously snatching up satellite nations like the Rhineland and Poland. Her successor started off as a snoozer, nothing much happening under the hood, if you follow what I mean. But Russia attacks Ukraine and in under 72 hours, Germany reverses 77 years of policy regarding military buildups, weaponry, and now they are even considering restarting the draft and conscripting soldiers. In the blink of any eye, everything changed, Europe’s giant is once again awake. Just pray the Lord comes and gets us as He has promised, and soon.

Germany, Europe’s Sleeping Giant, Suddenly Awakens

FROM THE ATLANTIC: Late last year, when Angela Merkel was still German chancellor, I asked one of the most astute foreign-policy thinkers in her government about the country’s worrying dependence on authoritarian powers and the reluctance of its political class to reconsider these relationships.

At the time, Berlin was poised to inaugurate a new gas pipeline from Russia, and Germany’s biggest companies were announcing major new investments in China. But Merkel was on her way out, and the question on many minds was whether a leadership change might bring about a shift in Germany’s approach. The German official was skeptical.

“Freedom does not mean as much in Germany as it might in other places,” this person told me, speaking on the condition of anonymity in order to candidly discuss German political mores. “If the trade-off is between economic decline and an erosion of freedoms, Germany could well choose the latter.”

Over the weekend, Merkel’s successor, Olaf Scholz, rose to the podium in the Bundestag and proved otherwise, putting freedom first in a stunning response to Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. In doing so, he shattered German foreign-policy taboos dating back to the founding of the Federal Republic more than 70 years ago.

Scholz announced that Germany would end its dependence on Russian gas, spend an additional 100 billion euros on its military, and deliver hundreds of anti-tank weapons and Stinger missiles to Ukraine in order to help its overmatched military counter Russia’s all-out assault. Germany may also be forced to extend the life of its nuclear plants to fill the energy gap created by the halt to Russian gas supplies.

Each one of these decisions represents something of an earthquake. Taken together, they are a political cataclysm that no one saw coming—not from a novice chancellor known for his caution, not from a coalition of German parties with pacifist roots, and certainly not from a government led by the Social Democrats, with their history of close ties to Russia.

“We are entering a new era,” Scholz told Parliament. “And that means that the world we now live in is not the one we knew before.”

From Washington, it can be hard to appreciate just how big the shifts are that we are witnessing in Germany, and so it helps to look back at where the country has come from. READ MORE

Now The End Begins is your front line defense against the rising tide of darkness in the last Days before the Rapture of the Church

When you contribute to this fundraising effort, you are helping us to do what the Lord called us to do. The money you send in goes primarily to the overall daily operations of this site. When people ask for Bibles, we send them out at no charge. When people write in and say how much they would like gospel tracts but cannot afford them, we send them a box at no cost to them for either the tracts or the shipping, no matter where they are in the world. Even all the way to South Africa. We even restarted our weekly radio Bible study on Sunday nights again, thanks to your generous donations. All this is possible because YOU pray for us, YOU support us, and YOU give so we can continue growing.

But whatever you do, don’t do nothing. Time is short and we need your help right now. If every one of the 15,860+ people on our daily mailing list gave $4.50, we would reach our goal immediately. If every one of our 150,000+ followers on Facebook gave $1.00 each, we would reach 300% of our goal. The same goes for our 15,900 followers on Twitter. But sadly, many will not give, so we need the ones who can and who will give to be generous. As generous as possible.
