Surge Summary: The modern outlook of Moral Relativism has removed the “guard rails” from behavior in society. The costs of that development are gruesome. The God Who Created people and Who wants to save them shows a better way to live.

by Allan Erickson

Obviously, we live in a world full of moral confusion, infecting every soul.

In the West most people side with ideas fueling moral relativism. Some still subscribe to traditional Judeo-Christian principles, values having a stabilizing impact. Humans and relativism don’t mix. Without guard rails, we plummet.

Is it then clear and correct to assert that moral relativism is inherently destabilizing, chaotic, inviting a kind of death dance?

Frequent accusations of sexual misconduct within the celebrity class set standards so low almost anything goes. Humans are capable of the worst behaviors all the while laying claim to the moral high ground, oblivious to the incoherence.

This week a new group of alleged predators were identified by alleged victims. The alleged offenses range from groping to rape, abuse and trafficking. In a highly permissive society, hostile to the Creator of all things, sexual chaos escalates, injuring all, killing some. Evil is commonplace. The killer culture endorses gruesome, disfiguring, irreversible surgeries on youths without parental notification. The society has gone mad. The source is moral relativism feeding ever increasing abuses and injury: physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual.

In such an atmosphere, the accused plead innocence with passion, the accusers are frequently used as weapons of destruction, and partisan death struggles often mark the battle.

Oddly enough the preponderance of evidence shows the relativists are most often the ones screaming accusations. Weird, is it not? Those pushing for no guard rails are the ones crying the loudest over the inevitable moral failings of others, especially the religious and the right wing.

Charges of misconduct! What better way to destroy an adversary? Ask Russell Brand, the latest target. Ask Justices Kavanaugh and Thomas.  Ask Rudy Giuliani, Tim Ballard, Bill Cosby and Donald Trump. What do they all have in common?  Hum . . .

How did we get here?

Eve was seduced by the serpent tempting her to disobey God. She ate the forbidden fruit and urged Adam to eat. When God convicted them, Eve blamed the snake, Adam blamed Eve, and God gave the world over to satanic control. The author of confusion and chaos made captives of us all. There is only One who can set the captives free.

It is truly bizarre how many people would trade their eternal souls for a 10 minute roll in the hay.

Matthew 5: 27-28   “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

Lest we forget, God gave us sexuality, to enjoy, according to his guard rails. When we prefer the chaos of relativism, we risk eternal separation from God. It’s just not worth it, and we see the terrible cost played out daily as millions of lives are ruined.
