God is much more concerned with words than He is with music, His word is His foundation. Your Bible contains a minimum of 150 songs, or psalms, and not a single note of music. Why is that?

The president of Asbury University closed down the school to the revival which according to all reports is moving elsewhere right now. For the past 15 or so days, the so-called Asbury Revival has gone viral on social media, for reasons good and bad. Christians are called to judge the spiritual things we encounter, including things like a movement of revival in our midst, to see if it is from God or from Satan. Would Satan send an end time revival? He sure would, in fact, the Bible says it will last for exactly 3.5 years, when it comes in the days after the true Church is caught up and away. Paul calls it the ‘strong delusion‘. So let’s take a moment, open our King James Bibles, and see what the preserved word of God has to say about spiritual discernement, something desperately needed right now.

“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” 1 Thessalonians 5:3 (KJB)

God wrote a Book that is roughly 1,500 pages long, composed over thousands of years, with 66 books all in perfect harmony with each other. I believe He did it so we would not be left wondering when questions arose, and not left to our own human devices to figure stuff out. Over the past few days, and even as I am writing this article right now, threatening messages keep popping up via social media and through email, warning me to stop speaking out against the Asbury Awakening. Of course, I won’t do any such thing, but there’s a little taste of the true ‘spirit’ of this revival for you.

5 Key Things To Prevent Yourself From Getting Fooled By A Fake Revival

  • ANGEL OF LIGHT: If you’re looking for Satan to appear as a nasty, scary red dragon, that doesn’t happen until the start of the Great Tribulation, after the Rapture of the Church. When Antichrist comes on the scene, he comes as Jesus Christ, as his ministers as angels of light. So if Satan were to give a fake revival, what would it look? A lot like the real thing. “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (KJB)
  • BIBLE DOCTRINE: Our Apostle Paul says that, in the last days before the Rapture of the Church, there will be a falling away into apostasy, where saved Christians become infected with Laodicean lukewarmness, and reject the preaching and teaching of Bible doctrine. One of the bedrock signs of a fake movement of the Holy Spirit is very little to none Bible doctrine being preached. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” 2 Timothy 4:3,4 (KJB)
  • OVER-EMPHASIS ON MUSIC: After Jesus exposed Judas as the betrayer at the Last Supper, He takes 5 chapters to preach and teach to His disciples, prays for them and over, and then they go off singing a hymn from the book of Psalms. 5 chapters of preaching and teaching, one song. Where does God put the importance? On doctrine. “And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.” Mark 14:26 (KJB)
  • THE FIRST SIGN IS DECEPTION: I get very nervous when I hear Christians talking about ‘forgetting our differences’ and let’s find some ‘common ground’, that’s where deception comes from. Rick Warren preached the fake gospel of ‘common ground’ while he was building Chrislam for the Vatican. Don’t kid me, man. The very first thing Jesus said would kick off the beginning of sorrows was deception on many levels. What’s the best way to get fooled? Just blindly accept some religious outpouring without comparing it to the Bible first. Stop being so critical and just starting ‘sharing and caring’ instead of studying that Book like a workman as Paul commands us to do. “And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.” Matthew 24:3,4 (KJB)

When an actual move of the Holy Spirit takes place, yes, there can be music, but the preaching of the word  is present on a ten-to-one basis. “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:16,17 (KJB)

The truth is the Bible says nothing about a last days revival, but it says a lot about last days deception and apostasy. There is nothing I have seen or heard regarding the current outpouring of whatever spirit is doing the pouring that makes me think this is a biblical move of the Holy Spirit? To me it looks like spiritual deception because of the red flags raised when I look at the revival after reading my Bible. The bigger it gets, the more I am convinced it is not of God. This revival is mostly people working themselves into an ecstatic trance-like state. singing along with the same song for hours at a time. You don’t ‘renew your love for Jesus’ by singing Hillsong music on auto-repeat. Your renew your love of Jesus by getting back into His word, the source of all truth.

A fake revival would be all about my feelings, my emotions, my worship, and I would be encouraged to just throw myself into this mosh pit-like atmosphere with complete abandon. That is what has been happening with the Asbury Awakening, and what will likely continue to keep happening as it now begins its traveling road show. Christian, I urge you to use judgment, use discernement, and most of all use your King James Bible to compare what you see with what you read, and then you will know exactly what’s real, and what’s fake.
